Body parts

This week we teach Chehel parts of body by letting ger por water on a baby in a bath tub. We say eyes and then pour water on baby eyes and ask her eyes...lets wash the baby eyes. Same with shampoo...put shampoo on eyes...nose...ears...lips...hands...legs.
Pour water again repeat same game and then use towel to wipe each part.
So there is a lot of talking.

Also my speech therapist pointed that we need wait after talking so that she vocalises and tries to say similar sounding word. She instantly pointed out not to give things easily....let child vocalise if he wants water or soap or more.

I found a lot of good respurces on cochlear website...under rehabilitation resources...and that's where my therapist showed me to create an experience book...one a week.
I am happy to update my speech therapist with below update in a week.

1. Audition : Chehel point to eyes, nose and lips. If we say 'hands up up up' she will do hands up but she does not yet point to hands if we prompt hands and legs. Sometimes she vocalises Ha for hands. We used own hands as stencil to draw hand on paper...she instantly said Haa.
If we sing the song ' little baby..'.she starts swaying the baby and starts pointing to eyes of baby. If we ask her ' Tissue to wip your nose' ..she gets tissue and wipes nose. Putting lip gloss on baby lips.
2. Speech :  Chehel is making a lot of 'ee' sound while playing....some 'gu gu' sounds. She is pointing to things and babbling as if talking.
If I wait longer to make her vocalize for e.g. Open before opening .....she will end up crying and pointing to the object. Need some inputs on how to improve this?
Calling name game : Papa turns if Mama calls and says Yes Mumma. It made her vocalize 'Aa aa' with the correct intonation. If she hears Papa talking from another room she calls aaa aaa. She uses same aa aa for mumma too.
Vocalises Aww for 'All done' and Uu for Up.
3. Cognition:
We build car and bridge from blocks. 'Beep beep Car' works.
The word bridge was not registered but she enjoyed moving toys under the bridge.
4. Social:
Chehel copied me and said He to someone when i said Hello.
She does wave 'Bye' with the gestures if we tell her do bye bye. Does not vocalize for Bye yet. Best part is she waves when the person is gone.

Experience books: A book named 'My Day ' with everyday activities like brushing...eating...cooking in play kitchen...drawing..sleeping is ready. I admit that I forget to read it to her everyday..
Taking lots of pictures to make more.

New updates:
1. Music...She recognizes and does rhymes action if I sing them.
Twinkle twinkle
Heads shoulders
Wind the bobbin up
Lets go to the zoo
2. Low volume sounds : I upgraded mapping program settings on one side and it makes her blink early morning or if i am talking loudly close to her. But  the good thing is she can hear Papa from another room and says aaa aa.
3. Pointing to new words like teddy spoon in book reading.
4 I think she is aware of whisper sounds...but not sure if she understands what is said.

First words

Last week was very motivating as we almost achieved our targets which we felt were challenging from what our targets used to be.
This week we are going to learn new words
1. Up up up....by playing game of taking a doll or ball in hand....and first say up up up then move the toy up. Then we wait for the child to do it. Separate toy in hand of child.
Chehel already does this as there was a song in babybeats cd from AB. I have been bombarding this word all day to her everytime she wants to be picked up or wants to come up in chair or go upstairs.
2. Round and round....singing the song round and round the garden and drawing circle on her hand with fingers...she enjoys the tickle at the end. Also, drawing circles in book and asking her to join...while i keep repeating round and round.
3. Wash wash...Shall we go for a wash...and actually take her to wash her hands in the sink....washing her toys utensils in her play kitchen. Washing her body while having a bath.

Also doing 6 ling sound test everyday with conditioned listening. Use a building blocks tower to build each time child hears the sound.

How did it go? We achieved round and round and up...but wash...she did not understand it yet...but she did achieve it by next week.

Music...I will say that Chehel now understands music...yesterday when I put the song five little ducks went swim....she said 'ahh ahh' in the rhyme wherever it had 'mummy duck said quack quack'.

Learning fo listen sounds

There is a list of sounds which are appealing to a child's brain and so ate good as a starter.
I am very lucky to have found a speech therapist from India who is coaching us every week on skype.

We have new standards for progress each week... I believe and everyone in India believes...the more problems you expose expose the child to...the more the child learns.
Same goes for speech therapy...more exposure to sounds and words and language each day...increases auditory processing capacity.

We had new targets to get child to listen and understand and discriminate
1. Hop hop rabbit
2. Ba ba bus
3. Beep beep car

Guess what...we challenged ourselves...achieved it and surprised ourselves. I believe our therapist is God send as God wants us to do more and sucess in speech therapy comes with motivation.

Chehel now started vocalising aaa back for plane with the correct intonation.  She even points to dog when prompted woof woof.

Awareness of music

We already play the game of dance when mumusic starts and stop when it stops. If she is in mood she will do it with musical instruments or box of toys.

Working on.....

understanding of music from a electronic device such as mobile.
Also,  singing rhymes without any action to make her recognize it.

Wind the bobbin up.
Heads shoulders knees and toes.
The wheels on the bus.
Twinkle twinkle...
Old mc Donald....

Environmental sounds

ToD suggested to make her aware of all environmental sounds. Some of them which she is now aware of are microwave, toilet flushing, knock on the door, hoover, stomping on the stairs.
Showing her these sounds where they come from has worked.
Also it was fun when she discovered the whistle of pressure cooker...after each whistle she looked at my face...pointing at the cooker...
Small baby steps...bringing big smiles on our faces each day....

She still has to discover the sound of door bell(it is soft), mobile ringing, sound of tweeting birds outside, sound of rain....

Discriminating ling sounds

Chehel can now discriminate some ling sounds. I had put pictures of the ling sounds on walls in the house and kept changimg their position after every few days so as to test her.
For
 1. aaahh she points at a plane or plane picture
2. Ooohh ooo she points at monkey picture...she sometimes does not associate monkey toy with ooo ooo... need to work on that.
3. Eeee sound...she is aware of the sound but has not yet linked it with the mouse...she is confused.
4. Sss she quickly points at the snake or its picture. She instantly blows rasberrries...
5. Shhh she is aware of as she turns to the sound and signs sleep for it. Need to link it up with a sleeping baby.
6. Mmmm is her favourite...instantly points at ice cream toy or picture.

Chehel is vocalizing 'hmmm' mouth closed for any sounds which is little strange...audiologists say it is normal.

Discriminating sounds..

Chehel is learning that different objects link to different sounds. I have been showing her plane for 'aaaahhhh' and monkey for 'oooo' and ice cream for 'mmmmm'. I have put pictures of these on each of the four walls in the lounge...where we spend most of our day.
I followed the same principle when I taught her sign language.  First take near object and point to it and make the sound...after some days....ask with signing where is then make sound 'oooo' and pretend to search. Then point at the monkey and say 'oooo' and take child close to the picture.   Repeat one or two times. One or two objects a day and then slowly add more on the walls.
Now Chehel can discriminate ahhhh oooo and meeeeoooowww.

She does not understand beeep beep for car yet.
Also need her to discriminate other ling sounds as well. Discriminating long and short sounds..and also low and high frequency need to be done next week.
I sometimes doubt that she is lip reading us. But teacher of deaf says it normal she knows where sound comes from.
